It was hard to choose which of my novels and nonfiction I felt most
confident about recommending. Some earned 5 star reviews. Some were obscure and
personal, not fun to read unless you love justice and life on life's terms,
unwilling to mince words. When I was a film director, I limited myself to five
takes. These five are my most mature work.
